This spring semester, CTC will be offering a special course designed for military members in aviation maintenance and civilian apprentices who may need additional training and preparation in order to gain their FAA Mechanics’ Certificate.  

This is a condensed 9-week course covering the FAA test subject areas with both classroom and hands-on instruction.  It will be delivered by CTC’s regular aviation maintenance faculty and held at their well-equipped aviation facility at Fairbanks International Airport.  Class dates are March 20 through May 19, 2023.

The FAA has an agreement with all of the branches of the military for service members working in an aviation maintenance field.  Members automatically become eligible to take the FAA written, oral and practical exams to gain their FAA Mechanics’ Certificate after working in that specialty for a length of time.  This FAA certificate isn’t required to work on military aircraft but it does help their military career and will be necessary in order to gain employment in the civilian aviation maintenance sector once they leave military service.  The FAA tests on many technical subjects covering the entire spectrum of civilian aircraft, many of which are not employed on modern military equipment.  Likewise, civilian maintenance apprentices may only work on a limited number of aircraft types and may need to hone their skills and knowledge on all the requisite FAA subjects.  This course is designed to fill in knowledge gaps and improve chances of passing this rigorous test.
