The UAF Community & Technical College Automotive Technology Certificate program provides students with the education and training needed to become an entry level Automotive Technician. The automotive service industry is one of constant change as vehicle technology becomes more advanced each year. Highly trained technicians are needed to be able to understand, diagnose, and repair modern automobiles.
The program emphasizes hands-on training and in-class experience as students conduct under hood and under vehicle maintenance & inspections, and determine root cause of equipment failures and make necessary repairs and adjustments to the complex systems that make up todays vehicles. The certificate training qualifies students for entry-level positions within the automotive service and repair industry in the areas of Electronics, Brakes, Suspension and Alignment, and Engine Performance.
Successful graduates from the UAF Community & Technical College Automotive Technology program move on to careers in dealerships, independent shops, service/IM stations, fleet repair facilities, and aviation ground support. Salaries vary depending on job placement and the student’s skill level.
Facilities and Instructors
The program is located at Hutchison Institute of Technology. The new auto shop is equipped with a fully-modernized shop boasting the latest tools and equipment, so that the education and training you receive is current with industry standards. Class size is limited, so students will receive individual help and attention. The instructors are experienced professionals who not only have excellent technical skills and knowledge, but they know how to communicate that knowledge to the students. Instructors can also work with students when they are done with the program to obtain employment within the local industry.
